The Federalist Society came in 1982. Harvard Law School, ‘Rights moves’ (Harvard Law Today); The Hill, ‘Meet the powerful group behind Trump’s judicial nominations’. Harvard Law Today: founded in 1982 by law students at Harvard, Yale, Stanford and Chicago. The Hill reports that ten of Trump’s first 13 confirmed judicial nominees were members or regular speakers, and quotes a co-founder saying the Society plays for Republican presidents the role the American Bar Association played for Democratic ones.

Members may still trade individual stocks; the STOCK Act of 2012 requires prompt disclosure and applies insider-trading rules. On 22 July 2026 the House passed, 232 to 198, a bill barring new stock purchases by members and their families; it had not passed the Senate.

The filings say he came from Dallas via Miami, alone, on 6 January, attended the Ellipse rally, walked to the Capitol and was inside for approximately ten minutes, recording video and taking photographs. He pleaded guilty to two class B misdemeanours.

Lords and clergy and men of property were exempt. Encyclopaedia Britannica, ‘Frankpledge’; The Extraction Pattern, endnotes to Chapter 5, citing Morris (1910). Britannica says the system covered ‘all but the greatest men and their households’, that a freeholder’s land was pledge enough, and that by the thirteenth century it was the unfree and landless who were bound. The Extraction Pattern’s notes list lords, clergy, women, household dependants and some substantial freemen as outside it.

Congress approved the plan in March 1948, and aid eventually totalled over $12 billion. The page names West Germany’s revival and says the plan ‘was applied solely to Western Europe’.

In June that year the Supreme Court struck the requirement down. Shelby County v. Holder, decided 25 June 2013. The Court struck down the Section 4(b) formula that decided which places needed approval. That left the approval requirement with no one to apply to.
North Carolina passed that law within two months. Fourth Circuit, NAACP v. McCrory, 29 July 2016. The day after Shelby County (25 June 2013), the Senate Rules chairman announced an omnibus bill. The expanded HB 589 was released on 23 July, passed in three days and signed on 12 August 2013, 48 days after the decision.
